About Our Law Firm

How Three Panhandle Natives Built One of Amarillo's Most Trusted Law Firms

On January 21, 2012, three attorneys with deep roots in the Texas Panhandle sat down and decided to build something together. Dusty Stockard, a native of Amarillo and Texas Tech law graduate who had been practicing civil litigation since 2000. Jarrett Johnston, a West Texas A&M and Texas Wesleyan law alumnus who had been defending clients in Panhandle courtrooms since 2004. Daren Brown, originally from Borger, a University of Texas School of Law graduate who had spent nearly a decade as a partner at Sprouse Shrader Smith before returning to build something of his own.

SJB Amarillo TX Law Firm About Us

What started as Stockard, Johnston & Brown, P.C. grew steadily as the firm earned its reputation case by case across Potter County, Randall County, and the broader Texas Panhandle. Kenneth Netardus joined as a partner in 2013, bringing with him nearly two decades of experience in oil and gas law, agriculture law, commercial litigation, and trademark law, and a practice built on representing everyone from major energy companies to independent farmers and ranchers. Benjamin Doyle followed, strengthening the firm’s insurance law and commercial litigation capabilities. He has been selected to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list every year since 2017.

The firm’s name has grown along with its team. Today, Stockard, Johnston, Brown, Netardus & Doyle, P.C. includes six attorneys operating from offices in Amarillo and Borger, serving clients that range from individuals and families navigating the hardest moments of their lives to Fortune 500 companies with complex litigation needs. Through all of that growth, the founding principle has never changed: this is an Amarillo, Texas law firm, built by people from here, for the people who live and work here.

We Handle the Legal Complexity So You Don't Have To

The first thing most clients tell us is that they don’t know where to start. They might be dealing with a car accident, a criminal charge, a denied insurance claim, a business dispute, and these situations come without warning. The legal system that’s supposed to help can feel impossibly complicated from the outside. Our job is to take that complexity off your plate entirely and give you a clear path forward.

We do that by treating every case as if it’s going to trial from day one. That means thorough preparation, direct communication, and a strategy built around your specific situation. It means you hear from your attorney directly, not a paralegal relaying messages. And it means we tell you the truth about your case, including when the realistic outcome isn’t the one you were hoping for.

That approach has earned us a reputation in the courts we practice in every day — the 47th, 108th, 181st, 251st, 320th District Courts in Potter County, the 47th, 181st, 251st District Courts in Randall County, and the courts in Hutchinson County where our Borger clients appear. Opposing counsel, insurance companies, and production companies know what it means when we file on behalf of a client. That reputation is one of the most valuable things we bring to your case.

We represent clients as wide-ranging as individuals filing their first insurance claim and Fortune 500 companies navigating complex commercial disputes. The level of preparation and commitment we bring is the same regardless of the size of the case. When you hire this Amarillo, Texas law firm, you get the full weight of what we’ve built — the relationships, the experience, the track record, and the local knowledge that only comes from spending your entire career practicing law in one community.

This Isn't Just Where We Practice — It's Where We Live

The founding partners of this firm didn’t choose Amarillo as a market. They grew up here.

Dusty Stockard is a native of the Amarillo area, a West Texas A&M graduate, and a Texas Tech law alumnus who has spent his entire career practicing civil litigation in the community he grew up in. Daren Brown is from Borger, attending Borger High School before earning his law degree from the University of Texas. Jarrett Johnston built his criminal defense practice in the Texas Panhandle from the ground up and serves as a Director on the Amarillo Area Bar Association board. Kenneth Netardus moved to Amarillo in 2001 after earning his law degree from Texas Tech.

That community connection isn’t incidental to how we practice law, it’s central to it. When you walk into a courtroom in Potter County or Randall County with one of our attorneys, you’re walking in with someone who has practiced in that room for years, knows the local legal culture, and has built the professional relationships that make a difference in how cases are handled and resolved.
